LANDMARK DATES

1986
The Cyprus University Sports Federation (CUSF) is founded at the initiative of the President of the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) Mr Kikis Lazarides and of Judge Takis Eliades. It is immediately recognized by the Cyprus Sports Organization (CSO) and accepted as a member of the COC.

1987
The CUSF becomes a member of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the flag of Cyprus is raised at the Universiade in Zagreb (Yugoslavia)

1988
The first official student championships are organized in football, basketball and volleyball. The Higher Technical Institute (HTI) the Pedagogical Academy, the Cyprus College, the Philips College and the
Frederick Institute of Technology are the first institutions that participate.

1990
The FISU allocates to the CUSF the organization of the First World University Badminton Championship in Nicosia Cyprus.

1992
Following the great success in the organization of Badminton, the FISU selects again the CUSF to organize the first FISU Forum, the first ever world conference on University sports. It is organized in Paralimni (Cyprus) and all the officials of FISU praise the level of the organization.

1994
The CUSF organizes in Nicosia the Forth World University Futsal Championship. Fifteen (15) national university teams take part in this championship.

1996

The CUSF organizes in Limassol the Fifth World University Windsurfing Championship. 56 students from 16 countries participate. The Cypriot champion Demetris Lappas wins a gold medal in his category.

1997
The Cypriot sprinter Anninos Markoullides wins the bronze medal in the 200m event at the Universiade in Sicily

1999
The CUSF along with 24 National University Sports Federations becomes a founder member of the European University Sports Association (EUSA). The President of the CUSF Mr. Dinos Pavlou is elected to the first Executive Committee of EUSA.

2000
The CUSF is fraternized with the Greek Committee for the Sports in Tertiary Education (EATE). In the framework of this fraternization the two Federations decide the participation of Cyprus teams and student-athletes in the Greek student championships.

2001
The Cypriot champion Irodotos Georgallas wins the bronze medal in the rings of Rhythmic Gymnastics at the Universiade of Peking (China).
The President of the CUSF Mr. Dinos Pavlou is elected Vice President of EUSA.
